Credit Suisse redundancies

Investment bank, Credit Suisse, is due to cut approximately 2000 jobs at its London operation. The cuts are part of a restructuring programme aimed to streamline the group’s investment bank.

According to the Guardian, the move could result in back-office jobs being moved to Poland or India.

Last year, Credit Suisse was one of the banks guilty of making redundancies in the immediate run up to Christmas. Unfortunately, more cuts now look likely in London.

Redundancy is a potentially fair reason for dismissal. However, a redundancy dismissal may be unfair if the redundancy situation is not genuine or if an employer fails to consult with the workforce. In addition, an employer must adopt a fair selection criteria and consider alternatives to dismissal.
